R452B also known by its respective trade name Opteon™️ XL55 & Solstice® L41y is a replacement designed to serve as a low GWP (global warming potential) alternative to R410A in positive displacement, comfort air cooling and reversible heating applications.
Developed by Honeywell and Chemours R452B it is a blend of 67% R32, 7% R125 & 26% R1234yf.
R452B is classed as a medium GWP refrigerant, at 698 (IPCC 4th Revision) at just a third of the GWP of R410A but it is still too high to be considered as a long-term sustainable replacement.
With similar efficiency and matching capacity to R410A, it can help to further minimize the redesign costs and capital expenditures. The design compatibility of R452B enables OEMs to transition their R410A equipment to a lower GWP alternative faster.
R452B discharge temperature is much lower than R32 and very close to the R410A, indicating that discharge temperature mitigation may not be required. R452B is A2L mildly flammable so is only for use in new equipment.
