National Refrigerants has committed to recycling as close to 100% of all returned refrigerant waste as possible, and where this is not possible all un-recyclable waste will be disposed of using the most environmentally responsible processes available.
Waste refrigerant is collected using re-usable recovery cylinders and transported to our facility in Hinckley accompanied with its Environmental Waste transport note which includes all the details of where it was removed from, who removed it, which refrigerant was removed, how much Refrigerant was removed and where it was taken to each time it was moved giving us 100% traceability.
Once the waste arrives at our facility it is documented and then analysed in our state of the art laboratory using gas chromatographs to confirm which refrigerant it is, along with moisture and oil content as well as the overall purity. Once tested the waste is transferred into a larger storage containers ready for reclamation. This process removes any oil, moisture or other contaminates whilst maintaining its specification and returning the once waste refrigerant back to ARI700 spec effectively returning it back to brand new virgin state. This process can be repeated almost indefinitely.
There are a small number of instances where recovered refrigerant can not be re-processed due to un-removable contaminates that can’t be filtered out so have to go for destruction in accordance with current European legislation.
Recovered and reprocessed refrigerant is then re-packed back into re-usable cylinders and reintroduced back into the market for re-use. This process ensures that 100% of all recyclable waste refrigerants can be re-used again and again.
Refrigerant recovery cylinders are an important part of the engineer’s tool kit.
Used for the safe recovery, storage and transport of waste refrigerants which can then be returned for environmentally friendly disposal conforming to current F-Gas legislation.
When a recovery cylinder has been used it must be transported with a completed environmental waste transfer note indicating what refrigerant was removed, when & where it was removed from, how much was removed and by whom. This is a legal document and these must never be transported without the accompanying documents.
There are 4 recovery cylinder types:
* NOTE - it is illegal to transport A3/A2L refrigerants in standard recovery cylinders and can be highly dangerous!
** Cylinders should only be used for one gas type per cylinder and should not be mixed.
Available Cylinder Sizes | Water Capacity | Max Fill Weight |
---|---|---|
Small | 12 Litre | 9kg |
Medium | 26 Litre | 20kg |
Large | 61 Litre | 46kg |
*It is important that these cylinders are not filled above the recommended maximum fill weight, overfilling can compromise the extra space needed to allow for thermal expansion, overfilling can lead to activation of the pressure relief valve.
